I spent a large part of my adolescent and adult years trying to figure out the relationship between beauty and wellness. Practically growing up in a salon was fascinating; I was always surrounded by glamorous people and glamorous products, but just gazing at them in awe was never enough. I wanted to know how and why: what made those marvelous creams, shampoos, mists and lipsticks work?

The answers were surprising. I discovered that many of the shiny products I found in the market—and, indeed, my own dressing table—were full of superficial gloss and dangerous substances. I discovered that my own acne, eczema and sensitivity could be traced directly to ingredients used in all my favourite products. And all my visions of glamour and excellence came crashing down.

I looked for natural alternatives in the market and found them to be safe but unexciting. Just a plain jar of sand, however pure, wouldn’t cut it for me—no offense to sand.  I wanted something more. I wanted it all: wellness and glamour.
